The New York Wine and Grape Foundation presented its Research Award to Andrew Landers at its annual Unity Banquet on February 18. Held this year in conjunction with Viticulture 2010, the Unity Banquet was created some 20 years ago as a way to recognize, encourage, and celebrate cooperation among grape growers, wineries, grape juice producers and others to advance the entire industry. Landers, who runs the Pesticide Application Technology Program at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, was cited for his work in agricultural engineering, which has involved developing new or enhanced pesticide application technologies that help grape growers save money and improve quality and productivity in the vineyard. Foundation Research Committee chair Jim Bedient, a Branchport, New York grower, presented the award to Landers.
