Eight Cornell Graduate Students Receive Awards and Scholarships

Craig Austin, graduate student of Wayne Wilcox, professor of plant pathology at Geneva, received the best viticulture poster award for his presentation, Inhibition of Powdery Mildew by Improved Vineyard Sunlight Exposure, at the national American Society of Viticulture and Enology (ASEV) meeting, held in July 2009 at Napa, Calif.

Cornell graduate students received eight of the 15 scholarships awarded at the ASEV national meeting.  Michelle Moyer (advisors Bob Seem and David Gadoury, Plant Pathology) was the first recipient of the special ASEV Michael Vail Scholarship.  Others included: Kristin Alongi (Gavin Sacks, Enology); J. Nicholas Jackowetz (Ramòn Mira de Orduña, Enology); Rebecca Nelson (Anna Katharine Mansfield, Enology); James Meyers, Trent Prezsler, and Justin Scheiner (Justine Vanden Heuvel, Horticulture); and Marin Brewer (Michael Milgroom, Plant Pathology).
