Learn to grow grapes and make wine at a world-class university in the heart of New York’s wine region.
Due to rapid growth in the region's wine industry, there simply aren't enough people qualified to manage vineyards and run wineries. Cornell is helping to fill this void through the undergraduate major in Viticulture and Enology (grape growing and winemaking).
Programs tailored to New York and other cool-climate regions
Cornell’s Viticulture and Enology major addresses the region’s unique challenges—the climate, soils, varieties, pests, and markets—while also providing an excellent grounding in other regions’ climates, grape varieties, and winemaking techniques. The wine industry in New York and the Northeast has rapidly expanded, creating a need for people with the skills to manage vineyards and run wineries. If you can grow it here, you can grow it anywhere!
The Flexibility to Personalize Your Major
Whether focusing on growing grapes or making wine, you can choose the electives that target your interests. For example, students can concentrate on business and management by taking electives in the college’s Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management.
Internships are an integral part of the program, and, with New York’s nearly 1,400 vineyards and wineries, there’s no end to interesting opportunities at home or abroad.
Transfer students are welcome, but will need to plan carefully in order to complete the course of study in two years.
